Must I keep my DSL or cable modem turned on for the service to work?

Yes, you must be connected to the Internet for the broadband telephone service to work. (Q28)

Does Broadband telephone service work with any DSL or cable connection?

It will work on most broadband DSL or 2-way cable modem connections. The downstream and upstream bandwidth is very important. The upstream bandwidth must be a minimum of 90 Kbps per phone call. Additional data traffic on the upstream or downstream during a call can affect the voice quality. This service does not work on dial-up connections. (Q46)

Will broadband telephones work with a dial-up Internet connection?

Not usually. Broadband telephones are designed specifically for always-on high speed Internet connections. Some people have reported success, however, over dial-up connections while traveling. (Q5)
