Can't I use my computer to make calls?

TBD (Q27)

Must I turn my computer on to use my broadband telephone?

No, broadband telephones do not require a computer. You can, however, talk and surf the Internet at the same time. (Q14)

Must I know a lot about computers to use broadband telephone service?

No. It is very easy to install and you will use the same phone set you would normally use with your local telephone company. (Q12)

How do I make international calls?

You can direct dial international numbers by dialing 011, the country code, then the phone number. International operator assistance is not supported. (Q55)

Can I use my phone during a power outage?

Typically, no. Your broadband telephone device and your cable or DSL modem both require electricity to operate. Some customers, however, use a small desktop UPS (battery backup power) so that they can continue making calls for a short time when the power goes out. UPS devices are readily available at most computer stores. (Q30)

Can I browse the Web and make calls simultaneously?

Yes, as long as your broadband connection supports at least 90 Kbps uplink, you should be able to make and receive calls and browse the Web at the same time. (Q39)

What happens if my cable/DSL provider has a temporary outage?

Broadband telephone service requires that your broadband computer connection be up and running in order to function. If your broadband connection is experiencing a temporary outage, your service will not work during this outage, and you will not be able to make or receive calls, including 911 Emergency Dialing calls. (Q47)
